ABOUT ME

Hey there! I’m Stefan and I spend my days making games!
While I’m a Game Designer first, I do have a broader interest and skill set which I’m currently putting to the test in a solo-dev adventure! Feel free to have a look around and see what I’ve been up to so far!

Drift away in the serenity of the desert. ADRIFT is a chill, offroad driving game where you venture across dunes, forests, and canyons as you make your way to the city. Your cargo is a power source which allows you to unlock the map but be warned that every second you carry it, it becomes more and more volatile and will explode. You’ll need to visit cooling stations and other safe havens on your journey and map out the best route through this world to progress.

ADRIFT is a solo-dev project I am working on as S . K . 9 . 8. I’ve worked on anything from C++ physics vehicles to procedural (assisted) environment tools to audio to game design.

‘Child of Lothian’ is a single-player, narrative driven, stealth game. Set in 18th century Edinburgh, the player falls victim to witch hunts.

‘Child of Lothian’ released Q2 2022 on Steam!

In ‘Child of Lothian’ I was responsible for the enemy NPCs and their AI systems. During pre-production I was accompanied by an AI programmer, after that I was solely responsible for this feature.
The entire game was developed in 8 months by a team of ~27 people.

‘Osakabe’ is a first person horror game taking inspiration from Japanese folk lore. Playing as a lost child the player is tasked with escaping a Japanese castle whilst trying to stay clear of the Osakabe.

‘Osakabe’ released in Q2 2021 on Itch.io!

My main responsibility on this project was the design of the Osakabe AI while working closely together with the AI programmer. As lead designer I also worked on getting the overall project to a desirable state.
The game was developed in 6 months by a team of ~13 people.

Game Design Instructor

Next to game development, I also have experience as an instructor at the highly rated Game Design & Production course at Breda University of applied sciences. Here I’ve been able to exercise my soft skills while working with the 2nd year students. From general guidance and presentations to focussed 1-on-1 feedback sessions and mentoring students and teams during (part of) their projects.
I closely worked with Stefan for 2 years in our Game Design Programme at Breda University of Applied Sciences. During that time he smoothly transitioned into his role as instructor. He utilized his experience as a developer and as a former student here to understand and emphasize with the students and provide them with appropriate guidance and feedback. He did this both on an individual personal level with 1-on-1 feedback sessions and mentoring retake students, as well as on a group level when supervising student development teams. During assessment he was remarkably quick at opening up the students’ code bases and getting the gist of what they needed to learn. During his time with us he was always a reliable collaborator in the teaching team and pushed for opportunities he spotted. He can be trusted to keep a clear overview, own his assigned responsibilities while showing genuine care for those around him.

I had the pleasure of working with Stefan during his time as an instructor at BUas, where he supported the Design and Production team. From the start, Stefan proved to be a highly reliable and proactive team member. He consistently picked up tasks with professionalism and clarity, and his strong technical knowledge made him a great resource both to me and for students. One of Stefan’s biggest strengths lies in how he supports others. In 1-on-1 sessions, he provided students with constructive guidance, clear feedback, and great resources to help them grow in game and technical design. He’s generally very easy to talk to, also outside of pre-planned sessions. As a colleague, Stefan was flexible, communicative, and a joy to work with on a daily basis. He not only kept his own work organized but also stepped in to help wherever it was needed. A standout example of this was when we had to review a large set of student projects in a short timeframe, Stefan went above and beyond, ensuring that every student received valuable and actionable feedback. Stefan’s reliability, collaborative mindset, and dedication to supporting others make him an asset to any team. I highly recommend him for any role that values mentorship, teamwork, and a proactive attitude. I hope we get to work together again at some point!
